Laparoscopic surgery — also called keyhole surgery or minimally invasive surgery — is a modern surgical technique in which operations inside the abdomen or pelvis are performed through 2–3 tiny cuts (0.5–1 cm) instead of one large incision. A miniature camera (laparoscope) is inserted through one cut, allowing the surgeon to see inside on a monitor, while specialized instruments work through the other cuts.
At AMVI Hospitals, all laparoscopic procedures are performed by Dr. Shaivalini Kamarapu, who has completed over 1,000 successful laparoscopic surgeries. It is one of the safest techniques available for women’s gynaecological conditions — with less pain, faster recovery, and minimal scarring compared to traditional open surgery.
AMVI Hospitals, Hyderabad, offers advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for a range of gynaecological conditions including endometriosis, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids and PCOS. Led by Dr. Shaivalini Kamarapu — a specialist in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery — our team uses the latest laparoscopic equipment to provide faster recovery, smaller incisions and better outcomes compared to traditional open surgery. Available at our Puppalaguda and Attapur branches in Hyderabad.

General anaesthesia is given — you feel nothing. Two to three tiny incisions (0.5–1 cm) are made. The laparoscope (camera) is inserted through one cut and instruments through the others. The surgery is performed while watching a high-definition monitor. Cuts are closed with 1–2 stitches or surgical glue. Most procedures take 30–90 minutes.
2–4 hours rest in recovery. Most patients go home the same day or after one overnight stay. A follow-up is scheduled within 1 week.
Laparoscopic surgery offers significant advantages over traditional open surgery:
• Smaller incisions (3–4 small cuts vs one large opening)
• Less pain and bleeding during and after surgery
• Significantly faster recovery — most patients return home the same day or the next morning
• Lower risk of infection and scarring
• Quicker return to normal activities — typically 2–5 days vs 4–6 weeks for open surgery
• Better visual clarity — the laparoscope provides a magnified, HD view of internal structures
At AMVI Hospitals, laparoscopic surgery is performed in our fully equipped operating theatres under general anaesthesia, with the highest standards of patient safety and monitoring.
Recovery after laparoscopic surgery at AMVI Hospitals is typically 2–5 days, compared to 4–6 weeks for open surgery. Most patients return home the same day or the next morning. You may experience mild soreness at the incision sites and some shoulder pain (from the gas used during surgery) for 1–2 days — both resolve quickly.
Most patients return to desk work within 3–5 days and resume full activity within 1–2 weeks. Dr. Shaivalini will provide specific recovery instructions based on the procedure performed.
Recovery is much faster than traditional open surgery:
Day 1: Rest at home. Mild bloating or shoulder discomfort (from surgical gas) — normal, resolves in 1–2 days
Days 3–5: Light activities — short walks, light household tasks
Week 1–2:</strong> Return to desk work and most daily activities
Week 2–4: Full recovery — return to all normal activities including exercise
Endometriosis — where uterine-like tissue grows outside the uterus — is best diagnosed and treated through laparoscopy. During the procedure, Dr. Shaivalini can both confirm the diagnosis and remove endometrial tissue, cysts (endometriomas) and adhesions in a single procedure.
Laparoscopic treatment of endometriosis at AMVI Hospitals significantly improves fertility outcomes and reduces chronic pelvic pain. Many patients who have struggled to conceive due to endometriosis achieve pregnancy following laparoscopic surgery combined with IVF or IUI.
Dr. Shaivalini Kamarapu has performed over 1,000 laparoscopic procedures — covering everything from simple diagnostic laparoscopy to complex endometriosis excision and laparoscopic hysterectomy.
