Laparoscopic surgery — also called keyhole surgery or minimally invasive surgery — is a modern surgical technique in which operations inside the abdomen or pelvis are performed through 2–3 tiny cuts (0.5–1 cm) instead of one large incision. A miniature camera (laparoscope) is inserted through one cut, allowing the surgeon to see inside on a monitor, while specialized instruments work through the other cuts.
At AMVI Hospitals, all laparoscopic procedures are performed by Dr. Shaivalini Kamarapu, who has completed over 1,000 successful laparoscopic surgeries. It is one of the safest techniques available for women’s gynaecological conditions — with less pain, faster recovery, and minimal scarring compared to traditional open surgery.

A detailed consultation with Dr. Shaivalini. Pre-operative tests (blood work, ECG, ultrasound). You will be asked to fast from the night before.

General anaesthesia is given — you feel nothing. Two to three tiny incisions (0.5–1 cm) are made. The laparoscope (camera) is inserted through one cut and instruments through the others. The surgery is performed while watching a high-definition monitor. Cuts are closed with 1–2 stitches or surgical glue. Most procedures take 30–90 minutes.

2–4 hours rest in recovery. Most patients go home the same day or after one overnight stay. A follow-up is scheduled within 1 week.
Recovery is much faster than traditional open surgery:
Day 1: Rest at home. Mild bloating or shoulder discomfort (from surgical gas) — normal, resolves in 1–2 days
Days 3–5: Light activities — short walks, light household tasks
Week 1–2:</strong> Return to desk work and most daily activities
Week 2–4: Full recovery — return to all normal activities including exercise
Dr. Shaivalini Kamarapu has performed over 1,000 laparoscopic procedures — covering everything from simple diagnostic laparoscopy to complex endometriosis excision and laparoscopic hysterectomy.
